Hello, this is my first post here. I have an organization called
Patrick's Posse, and for the past several months have been very
active in animal advocacy and awareness. Since I cannot
adopt/foster (my dog wants to be Number "Only One" here), and am
not in a position to start a 'hands-on' rescue, I do what I can
with networking in person and other, and also working
Facebook/Twitter, which has really proven to save lives. My one
frustration, however, has been that I cannot afford to contribute
much needed funds to rescue organizations that are actually OUT
THERE pulling animals from death row, supporting them through
foster and rehabilitation, and re-homing them.
Racking my brains for a way to help financially, I thought of
doing what I call a ChipIn Blitz (for those not familiar w/
ChipIn, it's a great way to do online fundraising/donation
drives, but they're all over FB, and not in any organized
fashion). One day it came to me that if 100 people were to commit
to contribute the equivalent of $ 52.00 in the year 2012, that
would be $ 5,200.00 that a reputable 501(c)3 rescue organization
could count on, and it wouldn't feel like breaking the bank on
the part of those giving. Donations can be done in 3 ways through
2012: a one-time donation, twice in the year, or quarterly - this
makes it possible for people with different income levels as
well. All donations, by the way, go DIRECTLY to the
organization's PayPal account (they provide me w/ the email
account that is used for PayPal, that's all).
I began my first drive for the organization AmsterDog, which I
have been following for several months. They are very reputable
and save an enormous amount of lives from death row at the high
kill shelters in NYC, in addition to finding foster/permanent
homes for the pups. I hope that we can help them rescue even more
in 2012. I already have 2 other 501(c)3 organizations interested
in being beneficiaries for the next 100 donations (that's 100
each...), and my goal is to rally enough people to donate to
support 10 animal rescue organizations in 2012 - optimistic, I
know, but it is VERY doable, just have to network like crazy!
Meanwhile, I welcome any suggestions you have about this! Thanks!
